Imagine: You bring out one of the good rocks glasses (or your favorite mug or a special occasion tea cup) and pour a couple fingers of amber liquid (or something dark and strong or just some whole milk). You drop the needle on the jazz platter (or pull up a blues album on your mp3 player or dig out that mixtape from college). Ensconcing yourself in the coziest seat in the house, you crack the spine on a classic (or find your place in that sci-fi paperback or pull up a biography on your e-book reader). And then, you go away for a while. Ah, bliss. <\/p>\n<p>In this series, some of NTSIB\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s friends share beloved albums, books and drinks to recommend or inspire.<\/i><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>A Good Read normally happens on Fridays, but this week we&#8217;re having a Very Special Monday Presentation. In the spotlight today are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/thedirtynil\">The Dirty Nil<\/a>, of Hamilton, Ontario, who have some very exciting plans this summer: they&#8217;re headed out on their first Warped Tour.<\/p>\n<p>If you have not already had the pleasure of rocking out with them, here&#8217;s a brief introduction.<\/p>\n<p>First up: <i>Guided by Vices<\/i>, half of the single they released last summer, and an explosion of punk rock joy:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"166\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/162197190&amp;color=ff5500&amp;auto_play=false&amp;hide_related=false&amp;show_comments=true&amp;show_user=true&amp;show_reposts=false\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><i>Nicotine<\/i>, from <i>Smite<\/i> (2014): a little bit of a slow burner, live, but still raw and propulsive:<\/p>\n<p><iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;\" src=\"http:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/album=124273011\/size=large\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=0687f5\/tracklist=false\/artwork=small\/track=2751088044\/transparent=true\/\" seamless><a href=\"http:\/\/thedirtynil.bandcamp.com\/album\/smite\">SMITE by The Dirty Nil<\/a><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>And in conclusion, <i>Little Metal Baby Fist<\/i>, from their 2012 record of the same name. I think it was the first The Dirty Nil song I heard. My reaction was <i>This is where the pit goes off like a rocket, right?<\/i> which is still how I feel about it today. Of pure fucking cheese. Poorly written and wandering in focus, Ace recounts his booze and coke fueled journey from being an unknown fuck-up to being a world famous multi-millionaire fuck up. He talks about his \u00e2\u20ac\u0153well documented\u00e2\u20ac\u009d encounters with extra-terrestrials and makes repeated cringe-worthy references to his new CD. Truly a work of questionable quality in every way, <i>No Regrets<\/i> is a terrible fucking book and definitely one of my favorites. <\/p>\n<p><strong>A Good Listen:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><i>Metallic K.O.<\/i> by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iggyandthestoogesmusic.com\/us\/news\">Stooges<\/a> is technically a live album, but to me it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the sound of everything breaking. Recorded in front of a hometown Detroit crowd in \u00e2\u20ac\u212274, it was the <i>Raw Power<\/i>-era Stooges\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 final stand. Its about 2 hours in length and mostly consists of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iggypop.com\/index.html\">Iggy Pop<\/a> taunting the audience as they pelt the band with lighters and bottles. Musically, its rough at best, though James Williamson\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s guitar playing is just as fucking thunderous as ever. My favourite part of the entire record is when Iggy leads the band into playing <i>Louie, Louie<\/i> for like 20 fucking minutes, JUST to piss of the already feverishly aggravated audience. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Missed me FUCKER!! Gonna have to try harder than THAT!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he taunts as you can clearly hear a beer bottle smashing into the stage. Now THAT\u00e2\u20ac\u2122S a fucking live album. <\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/youtu.be\/GhXrQ_eNwuQ<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>A Good Drink:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gas station coffee. This is what it&#8217;s all about folks. The further from the highway, the better. Its gotta be that black sludge that eats sunshine. Mmmmmm who knows what they&#8217;re putting in this stuff? I sure don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t.
